Community paramedics are specifically trained to provide healthcare in communities and patient homes. Physicians, continuing care site staff and care teams can request in-home care from community paramedica for their patients.
Community paramedics can provide the following in-home treatments and assessments:
- Wound care, including putting in stitches
- Blood Collection
- Medication, including intravenous administration
- Electrocardiograms (ECGs)
- Starting and managing intravenous sites
- Monitoring of oxygen levels, blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rate, ect.
In addition to in-home treatments and assessments, they:
- Can answer your questions about your care
- Have secure access to health records
- Have the necessary equipment and medication for treatments
- Adhere to hand hygiene and infection, prevention and control standards
- In emergencies, provide appropriate care and arrange an ambulance.
